Comedians with Pastors Talking Bible — Pittsburgh standup comics read the week’s gospel text cold and talk it out with a couple of Lutheran pastors. It should go badly. It somehow keeps not going badly.

Hashtag Not All Saints | All Saints Day, Nov 1, 2026

It’s All Saints Day, which means the Beatitudes. Bob and Eric are joined by resident comic theologians Abby Evans and Erick Williams, with no guest and straight to the text, to ask whether the meek are blessed someday, once Jesus comes back to settle accounts, or right now. It’s also the last episode of Season 3 and the last one recorded in this room.

Also in this episode:

  • Allhallowtide 101, plus an unreliable detour into Glenn Danzig’s Samhain
  • “Blessed are the dentists, for they shall be portrayed by Steve Martin”
  • “Blessed are those who don’t merge in the Fort Pitt Tunnels”: a Pittsburgh Beatitude
  • Second Coming casting: Rambo, Gandhi II, or a really pissed-off Willie Nelson
  • Why “who’s the most persecuted?” is not the contest Jesus is running
  • The meek shall inherit the earth, one gay frog at a time
  • Eric on communion as a table that seats every saint, including the ones you’re missing
  • A top-secret new studio
  • An apology. For once, a sincere one.

Matthew 5:1–12 (NRSVue)

[1] When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. [2] And he began to speak and taught them, saying: [3] “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [4] “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. [5] “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. [6] “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. [7] “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. [8] “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. [9] “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. [10] “Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [11] “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. [12] Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
